The twelve brahminical qualifications are:
1. Following religious principles
2. Speaking truthfully
3. Controlling the senses by undergoing austerities and penances
4. Being free from jealousy
5. Being intelligent
6. Being tolerant
7. Creating no enemies
8. Performing yajña (sacrifice)
9. Giving charity
10. Being steady
11. Being well-versed in the Vedic study
12. Observing vows
While these are wonderful qualities, they do not, in an of themselves, constitute the activity of the soul, or bhakti. Rather, they arise out of the desire to purify one's existence.
